Owner: Steve Harris
1969 Dodge Charger R/T
The car in this month's profile was at our show and won 1st Place
People's Choice. Everyone seemed to notice the car pulling into the
parking lot. I'm not sure if it was the sound of the engine or the
bright fluorescent pink wing on the back.
The gorgeous, customized '69 Charger R/T belongs to Steve Harris of
Auto Bahn Auto Works Ltd. autobody shop. The Charger has approximately
95,000-100,000 miles on it.
It underwent a complete restoration about 15,000 miles ago. The whole
car was gutted and the body was acid dipped. It received a few
changes in the reassembly stages. It had a full subframe added to help
it handle the increase of horsepower it was about to receive. In the
interior, a roll cage was added for safety. The new interior was a
cross between the 1970 Charger and the 1970 Cuda Gran Coupe. That
included a fully functional roof console along with a few added gauges.
The body was also reworked. The front spoiler was hand-made out of
metal and a Superbird wing was added to the back. The body was covered
in Sikkens and Glasurite paint and then hand-polished to give it the
deep shine. To finish it off, Steve reworked the fuel system and the
drive line. He added dual electric fuel pumps and the transmission was
converted from a 1970 3 speed to an aluminum cased 4 speed. The engine
is a 490 cube stroker HEMI with Keith Black heads, a roller cam and a
Rat Roaster 1150 Dominator with a nitrous Oxide fogger system.
What an awesome machine! Way to go Steve!
